Through log files and diaries found around the ship, Hansen pieces together a dark conspiracy involving:

Hansen eventually finds and rescues , the daughter of the deranged scientist. The ship eventually crashes into the Star of Sakhalin oil rig, shifting the action to a high-tech facility where the horror is even more concentrated.

They provided the funding and muscle for secret experiments.

As Hansen explores the bloodstained decks, he discovers that the ship is infested with parasitic organisms known as (or "Exos"). These tentacled creatures latch onto human hosts, reanimating them as aggressive, zombie-like monsters.
